Young Adult Round Table Business Meeting
NLA Conference - October 18, 2012 3 p.m.
La Vista Conference Center - La Vista, NE
Old business
I. Program in a Box - Jake Rundle reminded attendees that this is a resource that YART can offer. Circulation is few and far between so this is an opportunity for new YART leadership to consider revamping the programs or building more publicity for them. Jake explained that these boxes currently live at three different libraries which are the boxes' home locations. These locations are responsible for refilling the boxes (if needed). Libraries that borrow the boxes are responsible for the shipping costs.
Anyone that wants to create a new program in a box is encouraged to submit ideas to the YART officers. YART will reimburse costs for approved ideas.
II. YART Blog at blogger - Coming with a new NLA website, this YART blog will need to be moved into a Wordpress site to follow the same style standards as the overall NLA site. This may not occur until Spring 2013, but YART members will be notified via NLA representatives.
III. Twitter, Facebook, other social media - Jake reminded attendees that YART is on Facebook and Twitter and stores Delicious bookmarks of useful resources.
IV. November meeting with RVLS/MLS
Jake discussed that YART typically meets twice a year - once in the Spring with an emphasis on public librarians, and once in the Fall with an emphasis on school librarians. This fall, Jake is working on collaborating with the RVLS meeting in Lexington which will focus on technology and book trailers.
New Business :
I. New officer installation - Jake Rundle, outgoing president announced the new board - Lindsey Tomsu/chair, Rachelle McPhillips /vice chair, and Krystin Mavity/secretary.
II. What are you looking for out of YART - Bridget Kratt talked about having YART representation at a monthly MAS meeting to talk about how YART can benefit students and why NSLA members should consider joining YART.
Gordon asked about finances and Jake was going to look into specifics. Gordon also noted that because YART didn't have 2 people race in each election this year, YART does not receive allocations from NLA so YART must push the elections the next year.
Bridget asked what the membership for YART was and Jake said it was at 53.
