Thanks to everyone who attended our first annual Spring Meeting.
We had a great turn out and many new ideas were shared. Sally Snyder presented a list of books for the summer reading theme of Make Waves @ your library. The handout for her presentation can be found at: http://www.nlc.state.ne.us/handouts/handouts.asp
NLA president, Scott Childers, spoke to the group in regards to NLA's new strategic plan. He urged everyone to contact him with ideas of how NLA could meet the needs of its members. Scott's contact information can be found on the NLA site.
At this time we are requesting anyone with presentation ideas for the NLA Conference to please contact any of the YART officers. All presentation ideas have to be submitted to the NLA Conference Committee by April 15th.
The last portion of the meeting was devoted to speed programming. Below are some of the ideas generated by the different groups:
Literacy
Making a video connection between the book they read (iMovie) make a video to post so they could share at school.
Outreach
Find places in town that have teen programs (alternative schools, teen crisis programs) and see what library services you can offer.
Promotion
Put signs in places where young adults hang out. Signs like " Sick of Sparkly Vampires" with a list of books that aren't about vampires. Make the signs interesting to the young adults.
Craft
Dorodango Balls
Technology
Start a Ning, the Omaha Public Library started one for teens. You can put videos, links, etc...
It updates to Twitter and Facebook.
